Overview
The Fire Alarm Technician plays a crucial role in deploying, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining fire alarm and life safety systems, ensuring they comply with client requirements, company protocols, and regulatory safety standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of fire alarm equipment on project sites.
- Execution of wiring tasks including cable laying, termination, loop testing, and device addressing.
- Setup and configuration of fire alarm control panels, detectors, manual call points, hooters, modules, and related devices.
- Conducting regular preventive and corrective maintenance operations to ensure system integrity.
- Diagnosing faults and resolving issues in fire alarm control panels, detectors, and associated field devices.
- Performance of comprehensive system evaluations to verify the correct functioning of all fire alarm components.
- Documentation preparation including maintenance reports, recording test results, and commissioning paperwork.
- Collaborating with project engineers, site supervisors, and clients throughout installation and maintenance phases.
- Adherence to fire safety regulations, project specifications, and company quality standards.
- Responding promptly to emergency breakdowns by providing technical assistance.
- Ensuring proper upkeep of tools, testing instruments, and company property.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Proficient knowledge of both conventional and addressable fire alarm systems.
- Hands-on experience with installation and commissioning of fire alarm panels and field devices.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Expertise in cable termination, continuity testing, and troubleshooting electrical faults.
- Familiarity with fire safety codes, best practices, and standards.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic capabilities.
- Capability to work independently at onsite locations.
Preferred Technical Expertise
- Addressable and conventional fire alarm systems
- Smoke, heat, and beam detectors
- Manual call points (MCPs), sounders, hooters, and strobes
- Control and indicating panels (C&I Panels)
- Cause & effect programming
- Fire alarm system networking and panel integration (desired)
Education and Certifications
- ITI certification in Electrical/Electronics or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or a related field.
- Additional certifications in fire alarm systems are advantageous.
Preferred Brand Experience
- Familiarity with fire alarm products from Honeywell, Notifier, Edwards, Siemens, Bosch, Agni, and Ravel.
