Work Schedule
This position operates on a weekend day shift pattern with 12-hour shifts from Friday to Sunday and alternate Thursdays, following a 4-on/3-off and 3-on/4-off cycle. A 15% shift premium is offered for Saturday and Sunday shifts; Thursday and Friday shifts do not receive this premium.
Role Overview
Under the guidance of the Engineering Supervisor, the Engineering Technician 2 supports equipment engineers by assisting with installation, validation, and transfer of custom automated equipment essential for scaling manufacturing of current and new Dexcom products. This involves collaborating with cross-functional deployment teams and external suppliers to ensure equipment meets specifications and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret schematics, diagrams, and written or verbal instructions to conduct testing, troubleshooting, and equipment checkout.
- Evaluate performance of electro-mechanical assemblies using specialized test equipment.
- Work with pneumatics, electromechanical systems, PLCs, and robotic systems within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Operate, maintain, and test robotic machinery and vision systems.
- Analyze test data, document results, and prepare technical reports.
- Perform operational testing and fault diagnosis on automated systems and equipment.
- Assist in equipment development activities including assembly, testing, validations, and engineering studies under project engineer supervision.
- Adhere strictly to company safety protocols including Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
- Update and maintain equipment documentation such as manuals, drawings, and specifications as required.
- Complete all assigned tasks maintaining compliance with safety standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Typically requires a qualification at Level 6 or 7 and between 2 to 4 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret scientific and technical equipment-related documents.
- Capacity to prepare routine reports and correspondence with clarity.
- Effective communication and presentation skills suited for discussions with engineers, management, and supervisors.
- Practical knowledge of PLCs, automated production/process equipment, pneumatics, electromechanical systems, and packaging machinery is highly desirable.
- Experience in process improvement initiatives such as yield enhancement and downtime reduction.
- Proven hands-on experience working efficiently in dynamic manufacturing settings.
- Strong interpersonal skills for teamwork and collaboration.
- Familiarity with documentation practices and technical writing within manufacturing and process development contexts.
