Role Overview
The Director, Planning and Scheduling will lead the scheduling operations for data centre construction projects. This role involves creating, integrating, and maintaining a master program schedule that combines inputs from multiple general contractors, trade contractors, and equipment suppliers throughout the entire construction lifecycle.
As the key authority on schedule status, critical path evaluation, and risk exposure, this role covers various construction phases including site development, structural work, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) fit-out, and commissioning. Close collaboration with program leadership, project controls, construction managers, and contractors is essential to ensure the timely handover of data halls and infrastructure. Extensive travel (up to 75%) to contractor sites and offices is required to confirm progress and foster alignment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and update a consolidated integrated master schedule (IMS) combining all contractor schedules (general, MEP, equipment, commissioning) into a unified source.
- Set and enforce scheduling standards, coding structures, and detail levels to ensure consistency across contractors.
- Identify and manage dependencies and hand-offs at various construction stages such as site to structure, structure to shell, shell to MEP rough-in, and MEP to commissioning and IT turnover.
- Manage Primavera P6 environments hosted on LoadSpring to provide secure, centralized schedule access for all contractor schedulers.
- Conduct critical path method (CPM) analysis to pinpoint key drivers of project duration, identify float loss, and highlight schedule risks.
- Perform quality reviews (including DCMA 14-point or equivalent) on contractor schedule submissions and enforce corrective measures.
- Utilize SmartPM analytics for automated schedule health checks, benchmarking contractor performance, and identifying trends in delays and schedule alterations.
- Prepare and deliver schedule performance reports such as look-aheads, variance and trend analyses, and earned schedule metrics for leadership.
- Lead schedule risk evaluations including Monte Carlo simulations to establish confidence levels on key construction milestones.
- Set contractor schedule submission protocols, update frequency, and reporting standards within contracts and scope documents.
- Review and confirm contractor schedules for proper logic, resource allocation, and milestone alignment.
- Organize schedule integration workshops and interface meetings with contractors to resolve conflicts and sequence alignment.
- Ensure contractors meet committed timelines and assist in recovery planning if schedules fall behind.
- Conduct frequent field visits to contractor offices and construction sites to verify reported progress against actual conditions.
- Collaborate with project controls, cost management, and construction teams to synchronize schedule with budget and resource planning.
- Provide program leadership with guidance and advice concerning schedule risks.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $160,000 to $200,000 USD annually, subject to variations based on individual skills, experience, education, and location. Additional incentives may include bonuses, equity grants, and commission plans. Nscale offers a comprehensive benefits package featuring medical, dental, vision care, flexible paid time off, parental leave, and retirement plan options.
Additional Information
The position requires significant travel—up to 75%—to ensure effective communication and schedule verification across project teams and contractors. Nscale emphasizes privacy and data protection in recruitment processes as outlined in their Employee & Candidate Privacy Notice.
