Role Overview

PIL seeks a proactive Deputy Regional HR Manager to join its West and South Africa Regional Office in Accra, Ghana. The role involves collaboratively supporting the Regional HR Manager in overseeing HR activities across seven countries—Ghana, Togo, Benin, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroon, and South Africa—ensuring regional efforts align with global human resources strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business units to develop and execute HR strategies aligned with overarching business goals and regional people plans.
  • Assist with workforce planning, organizational structure redesign, and talent-related initiatives across multiple countries.
  • Manage HR elements involved in organizational change and support leaders in effectively guiding their teams through transitions.
  • Address employee issues by mediating conflicts promptly to maintain a positive workplace culture.
  • Ensure company policies comply with relevant labor laws within the region.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, retention, leadership development, talent reviews, and succession planning.
  • Promote employee engagement and well-being initiatives aligned with regional HR strategies and organizational goals.
  • Maintain a collaborative and inclusive environment through open communication between management and staff.
  • Administer performance management processes, ensuring periodic evaluations contribute to personal and company growth.
  • Develop and update HR policies to meet organizational and legal standards.
  • Identify training needs and design programs to close skills gaps and enhance career progression.
  • Utilize HR analytics to support informed decision-making and measure initiative outcomes.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of progressive HR experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a comparable role within an international or multi-country environment.
  • Professional HR certifications such as SHRM or SPHR are highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of HR practices and labor laws applicable to Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in talent acquisition, talent management, performance oversight, and HR operational management.
  • Proven leadership skills in managing HR teams and influencing senior executives.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience engaging with unionized workforce environments.
