Custodian - Coomes Recreation Center

Overview

The custodian plays an essential role in preserving the cleanliness and upkeep of the Coomes Recreation Center and its surroundings. This role requires daily independent work, sound decision making, and accommodates a rotating schedule including evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out general custodial functions such as sweeping, mopping, waxing floors and stairwells; vacuuming and cleaning carpets regularly; cleaning windows and replacing light bulbs; dusting and polishing furniture, window sills, banisters, ceilings, bleachers, and light fixtures.
• Maintain restrooms, drinking fountains, and kitchens in sanitary condition; remove trash and litter inside and around the building; set up and dismantle furniture and equipment for events; lift and transport items up to 50 pounds; climb stairs as needed.
• Perform minor repairs on building and equipment; adhere to and promote safety protocols throughout the facility and grounds; replenish soap and paper products in dispensers; perform additional cleaning duties as assigned.
• Ensure completion of cleaning tasks daily, document work performed, and communicate facility, inventory or staff concerns to management.
• Stock and manage custodial supplies effectively.
• Assist with maintenance recordkeeping.
• Verify that all doors are secured and alarm systems are activated after hours.

Qualifications & Skills

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
• A minimum of two years’ hands-on experience related to custodial services.
• Familiarity with standard custodial procedures and the ability to complete delegated tasks efficiently.
• Proficiency in operating janitorial machinery such as floor buffers and carpet cleaners.
• Competence using hand and power tools including hammers, screwdrivers, and pliers.
