Overview
Tesla is hiring a passionate and experienced Community Relations Manager to act as the main liaison connecting Tesla's Fremont Factory operations with the surrounding Bay Area community. This individual contributor position requires a proactive self-starter with deep community engagement expertise and comprehensive knowledge of Bay Area stakeholders. The role demands building authentic, enduring connections with community members, government agencies, civic groups, and industry organizations. Additionally, this role leads strategic initiatives from conception through implementation as directed by operational leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Tesla’s primary community liaison for the Fremont Factory and related regional activities, representing Tesla’s leadership to local stakeholders.
- Establish and nurture trust-based relationships with neighborhood groups, community organizations, civic leaders, and local residents.
- Create and implement a detailed community engagement plan that aligns with Tesla's corporate values, operational goals, and sustainability commitments.
- Take ownership of strategic cross-functional projects from ideation to execution in coordination with manufacturing leadership.
- Organize and represent Tesla at public forums including community events, town halls, meetings, and facility tours to enhance community awareness of factory operations and products.
- Anticipate, address, and escalate community concerns related to Tesla’s Fremont and Bay Area activities, ensuring transparent and timely communication.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams such as Government Relations, Environmental Health & Safety, Communications, Legal, and Operations to synchronize engagement efforts and messaging consistency.
- Maintain detailed records of engagement activities, stakeholder feedback, and relationship status; compile reports, briefings, and presentations for internal leadership.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs, Communications, Political Science, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Business Administration, or a related discipline; or equivalent experience.
- At least five years of proven experience in community partnerships, public affairs, stakeholder engagement, or technical program management, notably within Fremont and the greater Bay Area community.
- Proficiency in engaging with local government entities, regulatory agencies, industry groups, and a solid understanding of Bay Area community dynamics and government frameworks.
- Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, facilitation, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with independent judgment in sensitive contexts.
- Preferred experience includes working in or alongside manufacturing, industrial, or technology sectors and familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as TCEQ and OSHA.
- Additional desired qualifications include experience supporting government relations or public policy teams, bilingual Spanish skills, and established relationships with Fremont civic or nonprofit organizations.
- A genuine relationship builder passionate about Tesla’s mission, adept at navigating complex multi-stakeholder situations with diplomacy and a long-term engagement focus.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $104000 to $270000 annually plus cash and stock awards along with comprehensive benefits.
