Role Overview
The Commis I - International Cuisine position is a full-time, on-site role stationed in Doha. The primary duties involve assisting in preparing, cooking, and presenting international dishes under the supervision of senior chefs. The successful candidate will adhere to standardized recipes and portion sizes, contribute to an efficient mise en place, and maintain excellent hygiene and food safety practices. This role includes ensuring the kitchen is tidy, organized, and sufficiently stocked, supporting seamless kitchen functioning during service, collaborating within the culinary team, and assisting with stock rotation, labeling, and waste management. Participation in quality assurance and periodic menu tastings may also be required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Solid foundational culinary expertise in preparing hot and cold dishes, especially from international cuisine.
- Proficient understanding of food safety, hygiene protocols, and basic HACCP principles relevant to professional kitchens.
- Experience in fast-paced settings such as restaurants, hotels, or catering kitchens, preferably as a commis or in a related role.
- Ability to accurately follow culinary recipes and instructions, with strict attention to portion control and food presentation.
- Strong teamwork, clear communication, effective time management, and a proactive, cooperative work ethic.
- Willingness to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays aligned with operational requirements.
- Relevant culinary education or certification is preferred; practical training in international cuisine is advantageous.
- Basic proficiency in English; knowledge of additional languages is an asset.
