Role Overview
We are expanding our nationwide assessment team and offer an opportunity for professionals who enjoy the technical aspects of insurance claims. The role involves inspecting damaged homes, evaluating losses, and deciding on repair approaches directly at the site. Some inspections are straightforward, while others require detailed investigation involving damage assessment, moisture analysis, and review of previous repairs.
You will interact closely with customers, clearly communicating outcomes and next steps. Although predominantly field-based, certain assessments will be conducted remotely from your desktop. Collaboration with builders is also a key aspect, to ensure repairs proceed efficiently and stakeholders remain informed.
Service Area and Travel
This position mainly covers the Australian Capital Territory and Southern Sydney Region; however, regular travel beyond these areas will be necessary. Additionally, during catastrophe events, national travel may be required to provide extra support in affected locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site inspections to evaluate damage and determine appropriate repairs, ensuring decisions are well-documented and authoritative to avoid re-assessments.
- Explain findings and next steps in person to customers, addressing their questions especially in complex cases.
- Collaborate with builders to review scopes, resolve disagreements, and maintain momentum on repairs despite challenges in timelines or methods.
- Manage daily schedules consisting of new and ongoing claims, balancing site inspections, report preparation, follow-ups, and documentation to prevent delays in repair processes.
- Utilize the designated DOS system daily for completing reports and keeping documentation up to date so workload remains manageable.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience as an insurance assessor, loss adjuster, builder, restoration specialist, or estimator with skills in repair scoping and direct customer and builder interaction.
- Alternatively, experience in desktop home assessing is also acceptable.
