Position Overview
This role requires a skilled carpenter to undertake various carpentry and maintenance duties within district facilities. Collaboration across trades is expected, reporting directly to the Director of Operations or a designated representative. The position is temporary until the incumbent returns or until December 22, 2027, based in Cranbrook, British Columbia.
Work Schedule and Compensation
The role demands 40 hours of work per week, compensated at an hourly wage of $35.01 as per the CUPE 4165 Collective Agreement.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Certification as a British Columbia Journeyperson Carpenter (Red Seal)
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
- At least four years of experience in carpentry trade
- Computer proficiency is considered advantageous
The candidate must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, the ability to work independently and cooperatively under pressure, and comply with guidelines, codes, and regulations relevant to the trade. Handling challenging situations, operating and maintaining specialized tools, problem-solving, reading technical documentation, maintaining confidentiality, and performing physically demanding tasks are core to the role.
Main Responsibilities
- Inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining facilities within the district
- Purchasing supplies, parts, and equipment necessary for tasks
- Preparing budgets and managing inventory
- Estimating and billing costs accurately
- Supervising support staff during assigned tasks
- Being available on-call when needed
- Reporting potentially serious or hazardous situations to the Director of Operations or delegate
- Coordinating with school personnel, ministries, enforcing agencies, inspectors, and contractors
- Maintaining, cleaning, servicing, adjusting, and repairing relevant tools and equipment
- Contributing to the technical design aspects of new building projects and renovations
- Other job-related duties as assigned
