About the Role
Barnsley Council is seeking a Facilities Management Caretaker to join their assets team, working on-site as part of a multi-disciplinary group. The position involves maintaining council buildings safely and securely, adhering closely to health and safety standards. This is a temporary role with a 37-hour workweek and involves shift work from Monday to Friday. The salary range is £24,796 to £25,185 per year. Flexible working arrangements can be discussed.
Key Responsibilities
- Transporting goods and equipment between various council buildings.
- Setting up meeting rooms and events as needed.
- Conducting building inspections and reporting issues to the Facilities Management Helpdesk.
- Performing routine minor repairs and maintenance tasks to premises and equipment internally and externally.
- Ensuring that buildings provide a safe environment for users including employees, visitors, and contractors.
- Carrying out operational duties irrespective of weather conditions, such as litter collection, bin emptying, area cleaning, removal of sharps, fly tipping, graffiti, human waste, snow clearing, gardening, and weed control.
Candidate Requirements
- Must have a good command of English communication skills.
- This position requires a basic criminal record check.
- Applicants should be prepared to provide reasonable explanations for any significant (6 months or more) residence abroad within the last three years.
- Applicants must have all necessary legal documentation to work in the UK, as Barnsley Council does not sponsor work visas.
- Knowledge and adherence to health and safety regulations related to building maintenance and cleaning activities.
