The First Judicial District Public Defender's Office in Tennessee is seeking a dedicated Assistant Public Defender to join its team serving Carter, Johnson, Unicoi, and Washington counties. About the Office

The office defends indigent clients across Northeast Tennessee in cases ranging from misdemeanors to severe felonies. Key Responsibilities

• Advocate for clients in General Sessions Court and/or Criminal Court.
• Handle a varied criminal defense caseload throughout from appointment to disposition or trial.
• Engage frequently with clients to provide legal counsel and formulate strategies.
• Conduct in-depth legal research and draft motions, briefs, and pleadings.
• Negotiate with prosecution and pursue beneficial outcomes for clients.
• Litigate issues such as suppression motions, evidentiary hearings, and sentencing proceedings.
• Conduct bench and jury trials as required.
• Work collaboratively with support staff including legal assistants, investigators, and forensic social workers.
• Uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and client service.
