Assistant Librarian

About the Opportunity

Bloomingdale International School is looking for a committed and enthusiastic Assistant Librarian to enhance our library services. This role emphasizes promoting a culture of reading and learning while working in a supportive and innovative environment that values creativity.

Key Responsibilities

• Guide library users in finding resources available in both print and digital formats
• Offer reference support and help with research inquiries, including assisting with database usage
• Manage library collections through material selection, acquisition, and upkeep
• Organize and lead library programs such as storytimes, book clubs, and educational workshops catering to various age groups
• Partner with local organizations and educational institutions to encourage literacy and promote library activities
• Support with technical operations, resolving issues related to computers, printers, and other equipment
• Engage in outreach by visiting community venues like schools and senior centers to extend library services
• Complete additional tasks assigned by library management

Qualification Requirements

• Possession of a Master's degree in Library Science accredited by the American Library Association (ALA)
• Demonstrated strong customer service aptitude paired with a welcoming and approachable attitude
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with interpersonal abilities
• Capability to work efficiently both individually and collaboratively within a team
• Experience and knowledge of library cataloging systems and use of online databases
• Awareness of current developments in library services and information technologies
• Ability to adjust and remain flexible in a dynamic and fast-moving work setting
• Preferred experience serving diverse community groups
