Applied AI Engineer - Global Public Sector

About the Role

Join Scale's expanding Global Public Sector team, dedicated to leveraging AI to solve significant challenges faced by public sector entities worldwide. This role involves crafting tailored AI solutions to positively impact millions of citizens, generating premium training data for national large language models, and providing upskilling and consulting services to broaden AI's influence.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with public sector clients to thoroughly understand their specific challenges and develop AI-driven solutions accordingly.
• Develop and deploy complete AI applications using state-of-the-art advancements from leading AI labs and open-source models.
• Work hand-in-hand with multidisciplinary teams, including data annotation experts, to produce superior training datasets.
• Design and uphold comprehensive evaluation frameworks to maintain AI model reliability and effectiveness.
• Engage directly with customers, with periodic travel estimated at two weeks per quarter.
• Promote and expand AI capabilities within the public sector through hands-on knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related quantitative discipline, or an equivalent practical background.
• Over 7 years of engineering experience after graduation, proficient in programming languages including Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, or C++.
• At least 2 years applying AI or machine learning in a production setting, such as deploying deep learning models, building generative or agentic AI applications, or establishing evaluation pipelines.
• Experience with cloud-based ML platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills with a data-focused mindset for iterative ML model and dataset improvement.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, suitable for effective collaboration in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous startup experience, especially in foundational engineering roles.
• Track record of developing and deploying large-scale AI systems.
• Fluency in Arabic, especially beneficial for language model projects.
