Role Overview
Mercy Hospital in Dunedin, New Zealand seeks an Anaesthetic Technician, also known as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP), to play a vital role in supporting safe anaesthesia delivery across various procedures. This position predominantly focuses on anaesthetic duties but includes opportunities to extend into scrub and post-anaesthetic care unit (PACU) tasks. The Technician will work closely with Anaesthetists to ensure both clinical and technical assistance is provided for delivering superior patient care and safety within the theatre environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver professional, technical, and clinical support to Anaesthetists during procedures.
- Ensure safe administration and monitoring of anaesthesia to patients.
- Proactively anticipate and manage potential complications, ensuring exceptional patient care.
- Coordinate and maintain accurate documentation to optimize patient care delivery.
- Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance care standards.
Working Conditions
This is a permanent full-time role with a 40-hour workweek, operating Monday through Friday.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Anaesthetic Technician or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) is essential.
- Current registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and possession of a valid Annual Practicing Certificate.
- Exhibit sound professional judgment and the ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner.
- Capable of establishing productive working relationships and functioning independently or within a multidisciplinary team.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high standards.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and adaptable in approach.
Additional Requirements
Applicants must provide vaccination history to be eligible for employment at Mercy Hospital Dunedin. Overseas qualified Anaesthetic Technicians should consult the MSCNZ registration process.
