Overview
This is a short-term chef opportunity in an aged care setting in Palmerston North, where you will help deliver nourishing meals that support residents’ wellbeing. The role is for around 6 weeks, with scope for further work afterwards. The starting rate is $34.00 per hour plus 8% holiday pay, and the assignment is expected to begin immediately.

Core duties
- Plan, prepare, and cook wholesome meals for aged care residents
- Work from set menus, recipes, and specified dietary needs
- Produce meals for special diets and modified textures as required
- Keep food handling, kitchen hygiene, and safety standards consistently high
- Track food quality and monitor stock on hand
- Coordinate with kitchen and care staff to deliver smooth meal service
Experience and attributes sought
- Prior chef experience, ideally in aged care, healthcare, or large-volume catering
- Sound understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements
- Capability to prepare meals to a reliable high standard
- Dependable, well-organised, and comfortable working on your own
- Good time management and the ability to stay on schedule
- Professional, caring approach to meal preparation and service
Roster information
The roster spans two weeks. Week 1 includes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Week 2 includes Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Shift hours are 8:30am to 5:30pm.
Eligibility
Applicants must already be in New Zealand and have valid permission to work there.
