Job description
Overview
Lumwana Mining Company seeks a dedicated Accounts Payable Officer to strengthen its Commercial Department. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately and promptly process supplier invoices using SAP, matching them with purchase orders and goods received notes.
- Enter and post invoices within 48 hours following approval.
- Reconcile monthly vendor statements with company records and resolve discrepancies.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Finance, end-users, and suppliers to address invoice, payment, and reconciliation issues swiftly.
- Manage approved manual payments in SAP and ensure timely bank processing.
- Produce and analyze Accounts Payable reports for precise financial reporting.
- Support month-end and year-end financial closures by ensuring accuracy of payable transactions.
- Conduct weekly Goods Received/Invoice Received account reviews and implement corrective actions for outstanding issues.
- Maintain professional supplier relations by handling inquiries and resolving disputes promptly.
- Ensure timely resolution of purchase order inconsistencies and maintain thorough documentation.
- Comply fully with internal financial policies, statutory regulations, and company ethical standards.
- Keep accurate and organized filing systems for Accounts Payable documentation, supporting audit processes as needed.
- Recommend and assist in implementing process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
- Monitor key performance indicators related to safety, service, financial outcomes, and productivity, taking corrective measures as necessary.
- Submit timely and accurate performance reports to supervisory staff.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of Grade 12 secondary education.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Full membership with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
- Minimum of two years’ relevant experience in accounts payable or general accounting, ideally in the mining or heavy industry sectors.
- Practical expertise in invoice processing, supplier reconciliations, payment handling, and vendor management.
- Experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning systems, particularly SAP, is advantageous.
- Profound understanding of accounts payable procedures, financial controls, and accounting principles.
- Advanced skills in SAP software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Strong analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- Competence in investigating discrepancies and executing corrective actions effectively.
- Good computer literacy across integrated management systems, Word, Excel, Outlook, and presentation tools.
