Role Overview and Responsibilities

The position is for a working student to assist the GIS team by managing, sourcing, and providing geographic data essential for business development in Germany. Responsibilities include identifying suitable locations for large-scale photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, collecting landowner details, and producing maps for acquisition and contracts.

• Conduct GIS-based screenings for hybrid PV and BESS projects using QGIS, ArcGIS, and ArcGIS Online.
• Assist in sourcing, maintaining, and preparing geographic data layers.
• Support the procurement and handling of landowner and parcel data.
• Create and update maps needed for acquisition, planning, and contractual documentation.
• Maintain GIS databases and organize project-related geospatial information.
• Ensure preparation of accurate and documented map materials.
• Utilize online platforms including ArcGIS Online and internal CRM systems.
• Support ongoing GIS-related tasks and daily team activities.
• Research publicly available geospatial data and facilitate data requests from public authorities.
• Contribute to evaluating and enhancing AI applications within GIS workflows.

Candidate Requirements

• Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in geography, geoinformatics, spatial/environmental planning, surveying, renewable energies, or related GIS disciplines.
• Solid foundational understanding of geographic information systems, geodata, and database concepts.
• Practical experience with GIS software such as QGIS and ArcGIS platforms.
• Preferable early exposure to database management, structuring, or analysis.
• Basic familiarity with query or programming languages like SQL and Python is advantageous.
• Experience with automation in GIS or related data workflows is a plus.
• Meticulous, systematic, and dependable approach to managing sensitive geographic and landowner data.
• Qualifications or training in QGIS, ArcGIS, SQL, or Python advantageous but not required.
• Fluent German language skills in speech and writing; English proficiency is desirable.
• Genuine interest in renewable energy, spatial data analysis, and developing large-scale solar and storage projects.
• Availability to work approximately 20 hours per week.
