Job description
Job Overview
We are sourcing talented individuals for Universal Banker positions in Uganda. This role focuses on supporting branch operations by providing effective customer service, accurately handling and verifying transactions, managing cash and vault tasks, resolving inquiries, and ensuring adherence to operational, risk, conduct, and regulatory standards.
Primary Duties
- Efficiently process and authorize customer transactions including cash and cheque deposits, withdrawals, inter-account transfers, currency exchanges, cashier orders, and additional branch banking activities within delegated authority limits.
- Accurately execute Telegraphic Transfers, Electronic Funds Transfers, Real Time Gross Settlement payments, customer drafts, cheque books, card operations, stop payment orders, and static data updates within prescribed deadlines.
- Oversee cash operations within set limits, reconcile cash with daily journals, assist in general ledger cash reconciliations, and act as vault or float custodian when assigned.
- Deliver consistent, professional, and customer-centric service, handling queries and complaints promptly within agreed service timelines.
- Promote the transition to digital banking by encouraging customers to adopt online platforms and effectively addressing related service issues.
- Recognize opportunities to refer clients to appropriate bank products and services such as deposit accounts and unsecured loans.
- Ensure strict compliance with Anti-Money Laundering regulations, Customer Due Diligence, Know Your Customer policies, data protection, whistleblowing protocols, audit requirements, and conduct standards.
- Address and escalate operational, risk, conduct, and compliance issues suitably to mitigate potential impacts.
Required Skills and Experience
- A strong orientation towards delivering excellent customer service within a branch banking environment.
- Comprehensive understanding of transaction processing, banking product knowledge, and customer service standards.
- Hands-on experience with cash handling, bank branch operations, managing customer instructions, reconciliations, and resolving complaints.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaboration, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Capability to work accurately under pressure, follow established procedures, manage risks effectively, and uphold high integrity standards.
- Comfort collaborating across multiple internal teams including operations, client service, sales, relationship management, and technical support units.
Qualifications
- A university degree or equivalent qualification is required.
- Relevant experience in banking, specifically branch operations or customer service, is essential.
- Familiarity with transaction workflows, service level expectations, and banking products.
