Job Overview
We are hiring an experienced Traffic Management Operative to contribute to the smooth and safe operation of Traffic Management Schemes across a variety of projects. You will play a vital role in maximizing productivity during shifts while strictly adhering to health and safety standards. The position involves night-time work hours and occasional weekend shifts, requiring flexibility.
Shift Details
- Night shift from 19:00 to 05:00.
- Additional compensation applies for out-of-hours work.
Primary Duties
- Manage various traffic control methods including Give and Take, Priority systems, Stop/Go boards, Portable traffic lights, Convoy working, road and lane closures, and diversions.
- Ensure all tasks are carried out in line with safe working techniques and approved procedures.
- Conduct risk assessments and prepare method statements relevant to traffic management.
- Follow prescribed procedures rigorously; identify opportunities for process improvements and communicate these to management.
- Perform daily vehicle inspections ensuring cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness for driver and passenger.
- Represent the company positively through appropriate attire, professional attitude, and maintaining tidy work sites.
- Proactively seek areas for improvement and demonstrate initiative in daily operations.
- Guide and assist the public safely through work sites when necessary.
- Recognize when to escalate issues to management for intervention.
Company Safety and Operational Rules
- Only perform traffic management duties for which you hold valid LANTRA qualifications.
- Ensure all setups comply with legal and industry standards including Red Book, Chapter 8, ARTSM guidelines.
- Continuously monitor your site for compliance.
- Report and rectify unsafe conditions or behaviors promptly if competent to do so.
- Maintain safe driving practices, avoid distractions, obey speed limits, and drive attentively to prevent incidents.
- Park vehicles considerately ensuring safety for the public and road users.
- Wear five-point PPE at all times on site.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum LANTRA 12d accreditation (TTMBC, 12d M1-M2)
- Additional LANTRA 12 a/b accreditation, IPV driver certification, and foreman experience are advantageous.
- Demonstrable understanding of differences between Chapter 8 and Safety at Street Works and Road Works (Red Book) standards and their applications.
- Valid full UK driving licence.
- Able to read and interpret CAD drawings related to project requirements.
- Mechanical aptitude related to traffic light systems is preferable.
