About the Role
Join GardaWorld's Security Services team as a Traffic Control Officer based at the Robinhood Bay Waste Management Facility in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. In this position, your keen observational capabilities, sound judgment, and effective communication skills are essential to ensure a safe and secure working environment. Being physically active throughout your shift is crucial as you'll manage vehicle and pedestrian movement in a busy industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct traffic flow using approved signs, flags, hand signals, and communication devices.
- Maintain safety for workers, pedestrians, and motorists within the work zone.
- Set up and dismantle traffic control equipment like cones, barrels, barricades, and signage in line with approved layouts.
- Communicate clearly with drivers, pedestrians, and equipment operators to ensure smooth operations.
- Maintain high visibility and alertness, positioning yourself safely at all times.
- Adhere to traffic control plans, relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
- Collaborate with fellow Traffic Control Persons to manage complex traffic patterns.
- Assess site conditions such as weather and congestion, adapting controls as needed.
- React promptly to emergencies by halting traffic and notifying supervisors or emergency responders.
- Document and report any incidents, near-misses, and hazards encountered.
Safety and Compliance
- Consistently wear personal protective equipment including high-visibility vest, hard hat, safety boots, and eye/ear protection.
- Perform pre-shift inspections of all signage and traffic control equipment.
- Enforce speed limits and facilitate safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists.
- Ensure clear access for emergency vehicles at all times.
Professional Conduct
- Maintain composure, politeness, and firmness when interacting with the public.
- Avoid distractions; abstain from phone use while directing traffic.
- Comply with company policies and all applicable local and occupational safety regulations.
Qualifications and Eligibility
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Possess a valid Traffic Control Certificate (mandatory).
- Hold a Class 5 Driver's License.
- Current First Aid Certificate is required.
- Have reliable access to a personal vehicle for commuting to the job site.
Additional Information
- Compensation includes an hourly wage of $18.00.
- Full-time position offering benefits.
- Work schedule: Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
- Uniform provided at no cost to employees.
