Program Overview
This Graduate programme offers an unparalleled opportunity to join the dynamic Technology Operations and Business Applications team at Westpac New Zealand. Participants will gain hands-on experience in Software Engineering, collaborating with diverse teams across the organization. The programme is a permanent graduate position, designed specifically for aspiring future leaders, running approximately 10-12 months from February 2027 in Auckland.
Programme Experience
Starting with an immersive orientation alongside the wider graduate cohort, the programme provides exposure to various business units, culminating in support to secure a role aligned with your skills and interests within Westpac. Throughout the journey, you will be guided by Technology Operations champions, leaders, and mentors, with tailored training to cultivate both technical and soft skills. The experience also includes involvement in communities, volunteering, and sustainability initiatives, enriching your professional and personal development.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaboratively design, develop, test, and maintain applications that enhance customer value.
- Participate in real-world software engineering projects with code deployed in live banking environments.
- Experience various disciplines including application development, data engineering, AI-enabled solutions, cloud technologies, platform engineering, and DevOps.
- Partner with engineers, architects, product teams, and stakeholders to tackle complex challenges with innovative technological solutions.
- Enhance programming and software development capabilities through practical application, mentoring, code reviews, and pair programming.
- Explore cutting-edge technologies such as AI, machine learning, automation, and cloud-native approaches.
- Receive ongoing guidance and career planning support from assigned buddies and mentors.
- Make a meaningful impact from day one by delivering solutions that improve experiences for customers and employees.
- Expand professional networks within the organization through events with fellow graduates, technology leaders, and engineering communities.
- Engage in community service, volunteering, and sustainability activities that contribute to work-life balance.
- Lead a project addressing a genuine business challenge, proposing and implementing technology solutions, culminating in presentations to key stakeholders.
Candidate Eligibility
Applicants should be final-year students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months) holding a Computer Science degree. Eligibility is limited to New Zealand or Australian citizens or New Zealand permanent residents. The programme seeks creative thinkers, innovators, and cooperative team players who demonstrate adaptability, innovation, productivity enhancement, excellent communication skills, customer focus, resilience, integrity, professionalism, and ambition.
