About the Company
A prominent privately owned engineering, construction, and investment group based in Qatar, operating extensively across the Middle East and international markets. This organization undertakes large-scale engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) as well as infrastructure projects in sectors such as energy, industry, commerce, and transportation. Additionally, it diversifies across real estate, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, and technology. The company is known for successfully implementing complex and high-value ventures with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and long-term growth.
Position Overview
The Technical & Engineering Director role is a senior leadership position within the Power & Digital delivery division. The individual will be accountable for maintaining technical integrity throughout all phases of data center projects—from initial definition through to construction handover. This role ensures that the power, cooling, civil, and ICT systems meet hyperscale and colocation standards and are fully buildable and operable at commissioning.
Reporting closely to the COO and Data Center Executive Director, this role functions as the principal technical authority for assigned projects, overseeing design standards, cross-discipline coordination, vendor interfaces, and managing technical risks across the entire delivery lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cross-disciplinary engineering teams covering power, cooling, civil/structural, and ICT areas.
- Own technical standards and the design basis documentation through Front End Engineering Design (FEED).
- Ensure all designs are feasible for construction, logical for installation, and prepared for site execution.
- Manage coordination between disciplines and resolve clashes via 3D plant modeling software like REVIT.
- Supervise high-voltage to low-voltage power system designs including utility intake, switchgear, transformers, UPS, battery storage, and generator systems, ensuring proper redundancy modeled for AI-ready campuses.
- Coordinate power system protection, metering, and quality verification studies alongside specialist consultants.
- Lead cooling system design involving air-side economization, chillers, air and liquid cooling targeting industry PUE benchmarks (1.2–1.4 for AI campuses).
- Oversee plumbing, drainage, HVAC, and fire suppression systems ensuring integration and efficiency.
- Manage civil and structural design including foundations, raised flooring, data halls, facades, accommodating equipment loads, seismic factors, and phased capacity expansion.
- Ensure mechanical and electrical services are coordinated within building structures to prevent site issues.
- Supervise ICT infrastructure design including structured cabling, fiber backbone, and carrier-neutral meet-me rooms, ensuring DCIM readiness for operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with network operators and hyperscale clients on connectivity and meet-me room requirements.
- Engage with commissioning teams from FEED stage to guarantee testability and safe power-up sequences.
- Develop and review commissioning documentation such as plans, inspection and test plans (ITPs), factory acceptance tests (FAT), and site acceptance tests (SAT).
- Ensure all technical handover documentation is complete, accurate, and satisfies client operation and maintenance needs.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for hyperscale and colocation clients during design phases.
- Lead technical clarification discussions with clients, regulatory bodies, and utility providers.
- Represent the company in technical workshops involving OEMs, consultants, and external design teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Over 10 years of engineering experience related to mission-critical or data center facilities.
- Proven track record managing hyperscale or large-scale colocation data center projects.
- In-depth understanding of data center power infrastructures.
- Strong background in cooling system design and optimization.
- Demonstrated leadership of multi-disciplinary design teams of 10 or more engineers.
- Experience with front-end loading (FEL) and FEED delivery approaches.
- Skilled in design software such as AutoCAD and REVIT or comparable tools.
- Desirable qualifications include sustainability certifications like LEED or BREEAM.
- Familiarity with hyperscale client design guidelines from major providers such as Google, Microsoft Azure, Meta, AWS, or Oracle.
