Role overview

This position is for a Technical Employee in Automotive support at the Alanvale campus in White Hills, Tasmania. It is a practical, hands-on role focused on logistics and workshop support, including maintaining, repairing, and assembling automotive training equipment, handling stock and safety processes, and ensuring the learning environment is ready for teaching.

The role sits under general supervision and involves the safe movement, storage, and organisation of tools, equipment, and materials so that workshops and classrooms remain efficient, compliant, and easy to use. This is a fixed-term full-time contract for one year.

Key duties

• Support the upkeep of workshop tools, equipment, PPE, and learning areas so they remain clean and safe.
• Work with teachers to make classrooms and workshops ready for lessons and practical sessions.
• Help reset faults in simulated automotive training equipment used for practical learning.
• Place orders for tools and consumables for automotive programs while staying within budget.
• Receive deliveries, unpack items, and store stock in the correct locations.
• Maintain accurate and current inventory records that are easy for staff and students to access.
• Arrange fuel supplies needed for equipment and vehicles used in training.
• Follow and maintain current standard operating procedures related to safety.
• May be asked to take on First Aid Officer or Fire Warden duties.

Experience and skills needed

• Previous work experience in the automotive industry is required.
• Experience with welding, engineering, or automotive electrical work will be an advantage.
• Strong organisational ability and attention to stock control and storage systems.
• Comfort using ordering platforms, MS Office, Excel, and inventory tracking tools.
• Ability to lift and move equipment safely while following WHS requirements.
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with teachers, suppliers, and team members.
• Reliable, proactive, and able to spot what needs doing without being asked.

Additional requirements

A trade qualification in Automotive or in Engineering/Welding will be highly regarded. A current driver’s licence is required. A forklift licence is desirable. The successful applicant must hold a current Working with Vulnerable People registration, or be able to obtain it before starting work.
