Job description

Overview

The Sustainability Manager position at Dangote Cement Plc supports the Head of Sustainability in establishing and advancing sustainability practices by integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. This role ensures clear definition of ESG KPIs and targets, fosters collaboration with stakeholders for transparent communication of ESG progress, and drives continuous improvement through diligent tracking and analysis of ESG metrics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with diverse departments and plant operations to implement sustainability initiatives and monitor progress against defined performance enhancement targets.
  • Establish short-, medium-, and long-term sustainability objectives, including strategies focused on environmentally responsible products, social responsibility, and compliance with government and institutional regulations.
  • Champion the company’s sustainability values and strategy among internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Organize stakeholder engagement activities, conduct materiality assessments, and prepare corresponding reports along with action plans.
  • Coordinate preparation of sustainability reports and certifications aligned with internationally recognized frameworks such as IFRS S1 & S2, GRI, UNGC, and CDP.
  • Oversee sustainability campaigns and ESG projects, ensuring measurable outcomes and impact.
  • Support and coordinate plant-level Sustainability Leads to build capacity and achieve performance goals.
  • Drive the implementation of the company-wide sustainability policy through training sessions, workshops, and related programs both internally and with external partners.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • Advanced degree in a sustainability-related field preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in corporate sustainability within large organizations, ideally multinational corporations.
  • At least three years’ experience with sustainability reporting using global standards and frameworks.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and effective internet research capabilities.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proven results-oriented approach with strong data analysis and visualization skills.
  • Experience in quantitative research methodologies.
  • Effective negotiation and change management capabilities.
  • Track record in managing environmental and social performance frameworks in complex business environments.
  • Expertise in sustainability and corporate social responsibility project management.
  • Excellent communication, advocacy, planning, and target setting skills.
  • Experienced in monitoring projects, performance measurement, and continuous improvement initiatives in industrial settings.
