Role overview
This position supports adults with intellectual disabilities in Wellington Central and Lower Hutt. The work focuses on helping people build independence and everyday life skills in a supportive environment.
Working pattern
Shifts are rostered and can include daytime, evening, weekend, and overnight work. You need to be available for a flexible schedule, including sleepover shifts.
Key duties
Depending on each person’s needs and abilities, support may involve transport, help with work participation, money management, preparing meals, shopping, cleaning, showering, and giving medication.
What the role involves
The job calls for physical fitness, resilience, and the ability to manage risk and respond calmly in difficult situations. A positive, practical approach is important because the role helps create conditions where meaningful progress can happen.
Training and development
No previous experience in health or disability support is required. Full induction and training will be provided for people who are keen to learn. The employer also supports staff to complete Level 2, 3, and 4 Certificates in Health and Wellbeing, with the chance to earn more as qualifications increase.
Pay and benefits
Pay is $24.68 to $30.13 per hour, depending on relevant qualifications. Benefits include long service leave after 2 years, insurance benefits after 2 years, a refer-a-friend bonus programme, and free Employee Assistance Programme support whenever needed.
