Role Overview
We're seeking a seasoned Strategic Content Editor to temporarily lead our content department during the planned leave of our department head and subsequently enhance the quality and strategic direction upon their return. This position begins as a contract role with the potential to transition into a permanent senior editorial role contingent on demonstrated performance and results.
Company Profile
Regex SEO is a digital marketing agency specializing in home service industries—including HVAC, pest control, plumbing, electrical, and other trade services. Our clientele typically exceed $1.5 million in annual revenue and are committed to growth-driven marketing strategies. We emphasize strategic clarity, targeted messaging, and measurable business accountability in all content we produce.
Key Responsibilities
- Critically evaluate strategic elements such as content briefs, keyword plans, and funnel designs before content creation, ensuring alignment with business goals and accurate interpretation of search intent.
- Review and edit all drafts to guarantee consistency with defined strategies, including persona targeting, call-to-action relevance, and fulfillment of search intent.
- Develop and implement editorial standards and processes to address recurring issues, improve tone of voice consistency, and enhance overall quality with team collaboration and leadership endorsement.
- Identify and suggest optimization opportunities missed by briefs, such as featured snippet potential or untapped keyword clusters, to improve search rankings.
- Oversee final quality assurance checks focusing on clarity, tone, accuracy, brand consistency, internal linking, metadata, and formatting before publication.
- Provide clear, strategic, and constructive feedback to writers aimed at skill improvement and better content performance.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum five years of senior editorial experience managing strategic marketing content, including SEO articles, landing pages, email copy, and paid ad assets, ideally within an agency or similarly fast-paced environment.
- Strong ability to analyze SEO strategies for weaknesses in keyword selection, intent mapping, funnel logic, and content structure.
- Proven capacity to work autonomously under pressure, making sound editorial decisions independently and documenting them appropriately during the director’s absence.
- Excellent collaboration skills combined with a nurturing and direct feedback style that motivates writers and fosters trust within the team.
- Aspirations for advanced leadership roles, having previously undertaken informal mentorship and process development responsibilities.
Opportunities and Growth
This contract position addresses immediate leadership needs but offers longer-term scope to shape editorial standards, quality assurance programs, and mentoring frameworks. Successful incumbents will gain leadership experience alongside the content director and may assume formal editorial management responsibilities as the department expands.
Employment Conditions and Benefits
- Initial contract role with a clear pathway to full-time employment based on performance.
- Fully remote work setup requiring significant overlap with Eastern US business hours for effective collaboration.
- Competitive contract remuneration ranging from $3000 to $5000 per month based on experience.
- Upon full-time conversion, the role will include salary, benefits package, paid time off, and a professional development fund.
