Role Overview
The Stateroom Steward/ess plays a key role in delivering personalized housekeeping services to guests, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and exceptional customer service to enhance guest satisfaction and foster repeat business. This position supports revenue growth through a guest-oriented service culture onboard Viking ships.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform twice daily cleaning of 15-20 guest staterooms, including bed making, vacuuming, dusting, veranda, bathroom, window, and mirror cleaning, and replenishment of linens and amenities.
- Guide and assist the Assistant Stateroom Steward, maintain familiarity with all aspects of stateroom functions.
- Report maintenance issues via Shipboard Reporting Systems and manage stateroom glassware and coffee machine replacements.
- Maintain guest confidentiality and competently address complaints.
- Provide ice delivery, laundry pick-up and delivery, and shoeshine services.
- Handle cleaning products and equipment properly, adhering to public health and waste separation standards.
- Engage in luggage handling during embarkation and disembarkation days.
- Participate in daily team briefings to align with Viking’s STAR Service Standards.
- Consistently maintain cleanliness and hygiene in accordance with Viking’s policies; proactively prepare for guest activities and ship operations.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and use safe lifting techniques.
- Uphold Viking’s grooming, image, and uniform standards at all times.
- Secure company property, especially during adverse weather conditions.
- Display flexibility by working varied hours, managing pressure, and promoting Viking’s positive image.
- Acquire knowledge of ports of call, shore excursions, and onboard activities to enhance guest interaction.
- Focus on achieving quality and financial goals for the Housekeeping Department.
- Comply fully with safety, security, health, and environmental procedures and participate in all mandatory training and drills.
- Manage minibars as directed by the Executive Housekeeper.
- Assist other departments or perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Candidate Profile
- At least two years of experience as a Stateroom Steward/ess or a comparable hospitality role with high cleanliness and guest service standards.
- Prior experience in premium cruise lines or ships is essential.
- Comfortable performing extensive walking and standing for long periods and capable of handling physical tasks involving weights over 50 pounds.
- Proficient in English to efficiently communicate with native English-speaking guests.
- Exhibit a service-driven attitude with professionalism, positive demeanor, and strict adherence to hygiene and confidentiality.
- Skilled in using cleaning chemicals, hazardous materials, and housekeeping equipment.
- Thorough understanding and compliance with Public Health and Sanitary Policies.

- Follow all standard operating procedures and Viking’s STAR Service standards.
- Maintain appearance consistent with Viking’s uniform and image standards, including policies on visible tattoos—no visible tattoos allowed, with few case-by-case exemptions.

Reporting Structure
