Role Overview
In the capacity of Staff Team Member Relations Partner, you will offer strategic counsel to managers dealing with intricate team member relations challenges within GitLab's worldwide organization. Responsibilities include leading sensitive investigations, advising leaders on confidential workplace issues, and collaborating with Legal and People Business Partners to create scalable solutions that enhance the employee experience while minimizing organizational risks. This individual contributor role reports to the Team Member Relations Director and requires high autonomy in managing complex, high-impact cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough sensitive investigations from initiation to resolution, involving interviews, data analysis, investigative reporting, and recommendations.
- Guide and support leaders at various levels on complex employee relations matters including performance management and risk mitigation.
- Develop proactive initiatives aimed at preventing workplace issues before escalation.
- Collaborate with Legal and People Business Partners to evaluate cases, contextualize them, and align on appropriate strategies.
- Lead the development, application, and updating of policies in alignment with applicable laws and GitLab's values as the organization grows.
- Analyze trends from cases to provide actionable insights for policy, program improvements, and risk management.
- Manage cross-departmental and organization-wide projects, actively seeking feedback to implement scalable solutions with partners.
- Support global governance of team member relations by interpreting employment laws and providing guidance across multiple jurisdictions.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Extensive experience in employee relations, including leading complex, multi-party workplace investigations.
- Strong familiarity with U.S. employment laws relevant to team member relations such as FMLA, ADA, Title VII, and EEOC processes.
- Experience in distributed, global organizations with ability to tailor guidance for diverse regulatory and cultural environments.
- Proven ability to influence change and garner support for organization-wide policy and program initiatives without direct authority.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, including the ability to produce detailed, defendable investigation reports.
- Demonstrates judgment, confidentiality, discretion, empathy, and resilience in handling sensitive, complex workplace issues and conflict resolution.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities, critical thinking, attention to detail, and consistency in work pace.
- Certified HR credentials like SHRM-SCP or PHR preferred, but not mandatory; knowledge of employment laws beyond the U.S. is advantageous.

The Team Member Relations group ensures consistent, fair handling of workplace issues aligned to legal standards and GitLab's values. They partner with Legal, People Business Partners, and leadership globally to manage cases, analyze trends, and enhance policies to support a positive remote work environment.

Compensation
The base salary range for this position in the United States is $126,400 to $213,600 annually. Salary determinations consider education, experience, skills, team equity, market data, and location. This base does not include potential bonuses, equity, or other benefits. Sales positions may receive incentive pay up to 100% of the base salary.
