Staff Nurse - Emergency Room

Job Overview

The Staff Nurse in the Emergency Room is responsible for coordinating comprehensive nursing care. This role involves direct patient care, educating patients and families, and managing transitions within the care continuum. The nurse supports professional nursing standards to meet patients' clinical and emotional needs and aligns with the mission and values of Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough patient assessments including physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual factors to identify health issues using evidence-based tools.
• Develop culturally sensitive, individualized care plans involving patients, families, and healthcare teams, with measurable goals for health promotion and restoration.
• Implement care plans timely in collaboration with the healthcare team, administer medications, and carry out procedures per established protocols while documenting all care activities accurately.
• Provide tailored health education promoting self-management and healthy lifestyles, adapting teaching strategies to individual learning needs.
• Continuously evaluate patient outcomes, engage patients and families in care evaluation, and adjust plans based on dynamic assessments.
• Incorporate latest research and evidence-based practices in nursing care and participate in clinical improvement projects.
• Exhibit leadership by modeling professional conduct, supervising junior staff and students, advocating patient safety, and contributing to organizational decision-making.
• Maintain professional ethics, advocate for patients' rights, and address unsafe or illegal healthcare practices.
• Commit to lifelong learning, mentor colleagues, and respond proficiently to emergency situations according to policy.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum two years of clinical nursing experience post-qualification in relevant clinical settings (waived for UAE nursing graduates after internship completion).
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a two-year nursing degree from recognized institutions with valid registration as a Registered Nurse in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
• Current valid national nursing license required.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) mandatory; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred based on the specialty area.
