Software Engineer - Python

About the Role

Join Hudson River Trading (HRT) as a Python Software Engineer and be part of a compact, highly efficient team that treats code as the core of its business. Unlike traditional assumptions, you'll be deeply involved in developing critical software that spans the organization. HRT primarily uses C++ for latency-critical components and Python for various other essential tasks including live trading monitoring, building distributed compute platforms, handling big data, and developing internal tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software that is utilized across all departments at HRT, leveraging advanced Python programming and software engineering best practices to enhance existing systems and build new solutions.
• Contribute to diverse high-impact projects such as improving job orchestration and scheduling within HRT’s extensive compute cluster.
• Create and refine Python tools and development environments to support company-wide engineers.
• Automate, deploy, and oversee systems related to global trade management and post-trade analytical processes.
• Develop and maintain systems aimed at hardware verification and supporting tooling.
• Implement data ETL pipelines managing diverse inputs, including market data, images, and text.

• Experienced in managing applications from design through production deployment and maintenance.
• Strong ability to analyze existing codebases, understand mechanisms, and identify enhancement opportunities.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Extensive daily experience with modern Python standards and deep knowledge of the Python ecosystem including best practices.
• Exceptional skills in designing, debugging, and problem-solving complex software challenges.
• Solid understanding of UNIX/Linux systems, system and processor performance, and network communications.
