Role Overview
This opening is for an enthusiastic Software Development Intern to support a growing genomics business. The role offers hands-on exposure to how software is built, tested, documented, and released within a professional engineering team. You will work with experienced developers, contribute to real tasks, and build practical experience in a collaborative environment. Curiosity, a strong interest in programming, and a problem-solving mindset are important for success.
Responsibilities
- Support the creation of software features under the direction of senior engineers.
- Write and execute tests, and assist in identifying, reproducing, and resolving defects.
- Help with small data-related tasks and simple scripting work.
- Use Git for version control and follow the team’s branching and pull request practices.
- Learn the team's build pipeline and continuous integration/continuous delivery tools and methods.
- Take part in code reviews and daily team standups to understand team workflows.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation.
- Handle confidential information responsibly and follow basic company security practices.
Requirements
- Foundational programming ability in at least one language such as Python, C#, Java, or JavaScript.
- Basic familiarity with SQL and relational databases.
- Some exposure to a web framework or REST APIs.
- Working knowledge of Git and version control concepts.
- Introductory awareness of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Understanding of testing approaches or CI/CD fundamentals.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to learn and strong attention to detail.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar field.
- Project experience through coursework, personal work, or academic projects, preferably with public code available such as on GitHub.
