Job Overview
The Senior Project Accountant plays a critical role in enhancing project accounting practices within McDermott by applying expert knowledge and best practices. They support less experienced colleagues by sharing deep conceptual and practical insights in project accounting. This role addresses complex challenges to advance the quality of services and impacts a variety of project, operational, and service activities, ensuring adherence to established guidelines and policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project teams to fully understand contract billing requirements.
- Prepare and review invoices for third-party customers.
- Compile necessary data to support intercompany project billing and verify intercompany balances.
- Calculate unbilled cost accruals accurately.
- Develop and assess Executive Summary Reports for intercompany projects to ensure data consistency.
- Run and analyze monthly system audit trail reports, checking for issues linked to business unit classifications.
- Generate and reconcile Accounts Receivable reports, including Contract Status, Aging, and Unapplied Cash reports, making necessary adjustments.
- Coordinate with project managers and control teams to complete forecasts and prepare project financial reports intended for local and corporate management.
- Collaborate with procurement and subcontract teams to manage and maintain robust project cash flows.
- Maintain strict internal financial controls over projects to guarantee timely invoicing and proper recording of project costs, serving as the liaison for client audits.
- Perform detailed review and analysis of project-related costs.
- Contribute to ad-hoc reports as requested by management at local and corporate levels.
Qualifications
- 5 to 7 years of experience, preferably within the oil and gas, EPCI, or construction sectors.
- A Bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting is mandatory, along with relevant professional certification like Chartered Accountant, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience with billing processes specific to the Energy and Construction industries.
- Familiarity with ERP-based accounting systems.
