Job Summary

The Senior Manager Litigation is accountable for defending and safeguarding the Group’s interests in all legal disputes. This role involves advising across the Group on litigation-related legal matters, identifying and preemptively addressing risks, and ensuring preparedness for various legal contingencies.

Main Duties

  • Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the Litigation unit’s performance continually.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of the Legal Department’s annual budget.
  • Report on high-risk legal issues encompassing local and international litigation to ensure timely risk mitigation to protect the Group’s interests.
  • Implement best practice standards and KPIs within the Litigation department.
  • Promote cost-efficiency and productivity improvements to minimize expenses and optimize value for the bank.
  • Operate within the authorized power limits assigned to this position.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with local and international judicial and arbitration bodies, including courts, prosecutors, police, central bank, and arbitration forums.
  • Manage coordination and communication with external legal counsel; prepare case briefing memoranda for senior legal review.
  • Maintain robust case diary systems to track all key litigation deadlines and milestones.
  • Assist in keeping legal expenditure for outside counsel at minimum levels, working closely with the Vice President, Litigation.
  • Keep senior management updated about significant litigation developments.
  • Facilitate the transfer of litigation know-how to support future transactions and legal advisory services.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to meet the Group’s strategic objectives and provide accurate information to auditors, compliance, and risk functions as necessary.
  • Manage legal documentation requests and serve as deputy secretary for the Group Investigation Committee when required.
  • Contribute to updating policies and procedures reflecting current laws and judicial precedents relevant to local and international litigation.
  • Research, draft, and review legal advice and opinions for conflicts and unclear legal matters to uphold the Group's legal standing.
  • Support business lines with complex litigation and new product advice, balancing operational activity with legal risk management.
  • Prepare regular reporting on Legal Department activities for executive leadership.
  • Coordinate document translation and maintain detailed litigation registers and reports ensuring currency and accuracy.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of related laws including court and arbitration procedures, company and civil laws, and banking documentation standards.
  • Contribute to training initiatives to develop Legal team capabilities and pursue ongoing professional growth.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and internal policies, including anti-money laundering, sanctions, data protection, fraud control, whistleblowing, and conflict of interest rules.
  • Adhere to the Three Lines of Defense risk management principles and foster a client-centric approach in line with Conduct Risk standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality and high professional standards safeguarding sensitive bank and client information.
  • Fulfill ad hoc assignments as delegated by management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law is mandatory.
  • A minimum of eight years’ experience as a legal professional, including at least one year specifically in litigation within a major bank or financial services institution, or as a practicing litigation lawyer in a recognized law firm.
  • Proficiency in English is essential; Arabic language skills for oral and written communication are highly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and legal analytical skills.
