Role overview

This opportunity is shared on behalf of a partner employer that handles applications and all subsequent hiring steps. The partner is seeking a Senior HR Generalist located in Canada.

The role sits at the core of a fast-scaling technology company working in AI infrastructure. It is a practical, high-responsibility HR position that covers the full employee journey, from onboarding through offboarding, while keeping operations compliant across multiple jurisdictions. The position blends day-to-day execution with longer-term process design, so the right person will be comfortable running HR operations and also helping build scalable people programs.

You will work closely with company leadership as well as Legal, Finance, and People teams to keep HR processes running smoothly and to support a strong employee experience. A major part of the job involves employee relations, compliance, and maintaining accurate HR systems in a dynamic, high-growth environment. Success in this role requires comfort with ambiguity, strong ownership, and the ability to bring order to complex people-related issues.

Key accountabilities

  • Manage HR operations across the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, internal moves, and leave administration within a PEO setup.
  • Update and strengthen compliance workflows, including registrations, policy maintenance, required training, and preparation for audits.
  • Oversee benefits administration and serve as the primary liaison for brokers and outside HR/PEO partners.
  • Support total rewards activities such as drafting offer letters, benchmarking compensation, and coordinating with Finance and Legal.
  • Address employee relations matters with care and judgment, including performance concerns, accommodations, conflict resolution, and exits.
  • Work with legal counsel on sensitive matters and ensure documentation is complete and risk is managed appropriately.
  • Contribute to performance management cycles, manager enablement, and people initiatives such as engagement surveys and onboarding improvements.
  • Maintain reliable HR data, reporting, and HRIS accuracy for metrics such as headcount and attrition.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in HR Generalist or HR Operations positions, preferably in high-growth startup or tech settings.
  • Prior exposure to a PEO model or multi-state employment structure, such as Justworks, Rippling, or similar systems.
  • Solid knowledge of employment law and HR compliance practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage employee relations issues professionally and with emotional intelligence.
  • Strong written communication skills, with careful attention to documentation and detail.
  • Ability to partner effectively with Legal, Finance, Operations, and leadership stakeholders.
  • High discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Nice-to-have background in HR automation tools such as Zapier or scripting, HRIS optimization, AI-enabled HR workflows, and certifications like PHR or SHRM-CP.

Benefits and perks

  • Market-aligned salary based on experience.
  • Equity participation in a venture-backed, fast-growing company.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Unlimited paid time off and flexible work arrangements.
  • Life insurance and disability coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with company match, where applicable.
  • Home office stipend and monthly internet reimbursement.
  • Flexible parental leave.
  • Regular team offsites and team-building activities.
  • Access to modern tools, a supportive learning culture, and growth opportunities.
