About the Role

Shining Hope For Communities (SHOFCO) is seeking a dedicated and community-centered Scholarship Coordinator to lead and manage its scholarship initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable girls in Kenya. Based in Siaya County, this full-time position reports to the Scholarship Officer and focuses on ensuring scholarship recipients receive comprehensive support for enrollment, attendance, and academic success. The coordinator will act as a grassroots liaison among schools, scholars, families, and local stakeholders, fostering strong partnerships that enhance scholar welfare under SHOFCO's Urban Network (SUN) community organizing strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with SUN committees and public school officials to facilitate smooth onboarding and ongoing support for scholarship beneficiaries.
  • Coordinate with SUN and Gender departments to identify eligible students and implement mentorship and school holiday programs, handling logistical arrangements.
  • Engage with families to empower them in supporting scholars' education and well-being.
  • Establish and nurture partnerships with local organizations and government bodies assisting vulnerable girls, including adolescent mothers, to strengthen recruitment and scholar assistance.
  • Deliver scholar welfare and mentoring services, maintaining active communication with parents/guardians to ensure enrollment, and escalating concerns to the Scholarship Officer when necessary.
  • Identify students at risk of dropout or needing psychosocial support, onboarding new scholars and their families to program policies and expectations.
  • Work closely with SUN committees to foster community involvement and accountability.
  • Manage recruitment data from multiple sources, maintain an accurate scholarship database, and conduct necessary home and school visits for data collection and follow-up.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of program delivery through feedback and process evaluation.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in educational programs or youth-focused community organizations.
  • Minimum of a Diploma-level education; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Counseling certification.
  • Proficiency in psycho-social counseling techniques.
  • Strong skills in data management, analysis, and communication.
  • Aptitude for building partnerships and networking within communities and institutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to relate effectively with students, staff, leaders, and officials.
  • High professionalism, detail orientation, organization skills, and a proactive, results-focused approach.
  • Ability to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
