About the Role
Cobb EMC is seeking an experienced electric utility professional to serve as a Safety Training Instructor. This position involves leading interactive and practical safety and job training programs aimed at reducing workplace accidents and promoting safe work habits throughout the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive training curricula and lesson plans for safety and job skills.
- Schedule and conduct training sessions, ensuring minimal disruption to regular operations.
- Maintain detailed employee training records and coordinate monthly safety programs.
- Provide coaching and supervision during training sessions, fostering employee confidence and adherence to safe work practices.
- Assist in establishing and upholding company safety standards and policies, supporting accreditation compliance.
- Conduct field observations, prepare reports, and offer safety improvement recommendations.
- Manage CDL and motor carrier program requirements, including training, compliance tracking, and documentation.
- Investigate workplace accidents and insurance claims, coordinate with relevant external parties, and maintain thorough documentation.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma required; associate degree in related fields preferred.
- At least eight years of electric utility line work experience, including two years as a First-Class Lineman.
- In-depth understanding of electric distribution systems, both underground and overhead line construction, live-line maintenance, and safety protocols.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and basic electricity principles.
- Strong oral and written communication, public speaking, and motivational skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information and handle member concerns professionally.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Possession of a valid Georgia Class A Commercial Driver’s License with necessary endorsements.
- Certification or ability to obtain certifications in trenching, shoring, flagging, forklift operation, first aid/CPR, and traffic control devices.
- Requirement to earn certain certifications (Certified Utility Safety Professional, Certified Loss Control Professional) and complete apprenticeship programs within five years.
Work Schedule and Conditions
Work involves 4 shifts per week, each 10 hours long, with potential overtime, on-call duties, and weekend work as needed.
