Overview

The AA is hiring a Roadside Rescue Mechanic to support members on the road and help get them moving again quickly and safely. This role is designed for someone who can work independently, remain calm under pressure, and provide a reassuring customer experience in all weather and across different locations.

Pay and working pattern

Guaranteed first-year earnings are £43,976, including allowances. The on-target earnings can reach up to £60,000 for top performers. The role is based on an average 40-hour week, and a range of shift pattern options is available so you can choose a schedule that better fits your personal and professional life. Rest days and shift lengths vary depending on the pattern selected. Starting and finishing takes place from your driveway, and you are paid from the moment you get into your van until you return home.

Key duties

You will respond to roadside breakdowns and provide practical mechanical support to members whenever and wherever they need help. The work involves troubleshooting on the spot, using technical knowledge, staying composed in changing conditions, and communicating clearly to deliver a positive customer experience. You will be part of a supportive team while operating independently across different locations.

What you need

You should hold NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or an equivalent qualification backed by relevant experience. A full Category B driving licence is essential, with 6 points or fewer. You also need to be comfortable using new technology and adapting to the tools provided. Flexibility is important, as shifts can include evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays.
