About the Role

Jaalakam – Window to Flavours of Kerala, Bengaluru, is seeking an experienced, lively, and customer-oriented Restaurant Captain (Steward) who brings more than just order-taking to the table. The ideal candidate will create a welcoming atmosphere, carefully guide guests in their food choices, and craft an exceptional dining experience that encourages repeat visits.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests warmly upon arrival and assist with seating and menu guidance.
• Accurately take guests' orders, recommend Jaalakam's signature dishes, and suggest appropriate add-ons and beverages to encourage upselling in a polite manner.
• Collaborate closely with kitchen staff to ensure prompt meal preparation and service.
• Maintain regular checks on customer satisfaction throughout the dining experience.
• Keep tables clean and organized, fostering a pleasant environment.
• Handle customer concerns tactfully and professionally in a fast-paced restaurant setting.
• Work cohesively with the kitchen, service, and billing teams to deliver seamless service.

Requirements

• Prior experience as a Steward, Waiter, or Captain in a reputed restaurant.
• Well-mannered, polite, neat, and exhibiting excellent personal hygiene.
• Friendly and comfortable engaging with customers effectively.
• Proven sales skills with the ability to recommend dishes, suggest appealing combinations, and increase average spend without being forceful.
• Thorough knowledge of Kerala cuisine, including dishes like Appam, Idiyappam, Porotta, Puttu, Kerala Meals, Biryani, Kappa, Stew, and Fish Curry.
• Ability to confidently explain ingredients, flavors, and suitable pairings to customers.
• Aptitude for understanding individual customer preferences to provide tailored dish suggestions.
• Attentive and proactive in meeting diners' needs throughout their meal.
• Comfortable managing customer requests and challenges calmly under high-pressure, fast-moving service conditions.
• Team player with excellent coordination skills among various restaurant departments.
• Languages: Proficiency in Malayalam, Hindi, and English is required; knowledge of Kannada is advantageous.

Compensation

Monthly salary ranges between INR 18,000 and INR 20,000.
