Residential Draftsperson

Role Overview

Wow Homes is seeking a Residential Draftsperson to join its Subiaco office team. This full-time, on-site position involves collaborating closely with Sales consultants to transform client ideas and concepts into detailed, code-compliant sales sketches.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop complete sales sketches including floor, site plans, and all elevations based on concepts received from Sales.
• Create design variations on existing house designs and produce unique custom drawings.
• Revise existing plans as client requirements evolve, ensuring all modifications are clearly documented.
• Review all drawings for compliance against Residential Design Codes (R-Codes) and developer-specific design guidelines.
• Interpret site characteristics such as surveys, easements, setbacks, and lot constraints for accurate designs.
• Work collaboratively with Sales consultants to refine designs within client budget and timelines, managing multiple projects effectively.
• Proactively identify compliance issues, proposing viable alternatives instead of simply rejecting non-compliant ideas.
• Coordinate with developers and local authorities regarding design guideline clarifications and approvals when necessary.
• Maintain meticulous version control and drawing records.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum 2-3 years drafting experience within Perth’s residential construction sector.
• Proficient in CAD software, specifically AutoCAD.
• Good understanding of the R-Codes and relevant estate or developer design guidelines.
• Skilled in drafting both elevations and floor plans.
• Able to interpret various survey data and site information.
• Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on regulatory compliance.
• Solution-oriented mindset capable of discussing alternative design options with non-technical team members and clients.
• Strong written communication for documenting plan variations clearly.
• Confident interpersonal communication skills to engage closely with the Sales team.
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously without compromising quality or deadlines.

Preferred Additional Experience

• Experience working with volume or semi-custom residential builders.
• Familiarity with challenging site types such as sloping land, battle-axe lots, or infill developments.
• Knowledge of NCC/BCA residential building standards and local Perth council processes.
• A formal qualification in building design or architectural drafting.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range from $70,000 to $80,000 annually plus superannuation, contingent on experience.
