About the Snowy Monaro Region
The Snowy Monaro area of south-east New South Wales is culturally rich and diverse, known for its historic Snowy Hydro Scheme, thriving agriculture, and popular ski destinations. Position Summary
The Records Management Officer is responsible for overseeing the Council’s Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS), ensuring security and effective control of legal documents. The role involves maintaining document control systems, training staff on record keeping policies, and providing high-quality customer service to both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, the role supports compliance with relevant legislation including the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 and State Records Act. Daily tasks include mail processing activities such as scanning, registration, and distribution of incoming and outgoing mail.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain the Council’s EDRMS with attention to security and control of legal records
- Manage document control procedures and conduct staff training for effective records management
- Ensure staff adherence to Council policies on record keeping responsibilities
- Provide accurate, timely customer support to internal personnel and external customers requiring access to records
- Assist with informal information requests in collaboration with the Governance Team under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009
- Perform daily mail duties including scanning, registering, and distributing correspondence
- Maintain compliance with the State Records Act and ensure proper custody of legal documents via the Legal Documents Register
- Monitor user compliance with EDRMS policies and procedures
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and quality
- Exhibit professional conduct, accountability, and effective use of skills to contribute to Council’s performance
- Promote workplace safety by adhering to legislative and organizational safety standards
Candidate Profile
- Possession of a Certificate IV in Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in a similar capacity
- Exceptional attention to detail with high accuracy and thoroughness
- A strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service
- Experience in document administration and understanding of record classification, scheduling, and security principles
- Ability to take initiative, solve problems, meet deadlines, work independently, and manage diverse tasks effectively
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including data entry and document formatting
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality and privacy at all times
- Skill in building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders aligned with organizational goals
- Current Class C driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within local government or other public sector agencies
- Familiarity with electronic document management systems
- Knowledge of NSW State Records Act and Government Information (Public Access) Act (GIPA)
Additional Information
This permanent full-time role is based in Cooma, New South Wales, under the Snowy Monaro Regional Council governance category. The salary range is $75,735 to $83,598 per annum plus 12% superannuation, graded as Grade 7 within the 2026-2027 SMRC Salary System. Applications close at 11:59 PM on Sunday, 2nd August 2026.
