REACH Family Support Worker Hunter

Position Objective

The REACH Family Support Worker offers trauma-informed, strength-focused outreach and therapeutic assistance to youth aged 12 to 17 and their families involved with the Broadmeadow Children's Court. This position works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners to address root causes of offending and family violence, enhance safety and wellbeing, and foster positive, long-term outcomes for young people and their families.

Primary Responsibilities

• Utilize trauma-informed, child-centric, and strength-based methodologies when engaging with young clients and their families.
• Establish positive therapeutic and professional relationships through culturally responsive and strength-focused practices.
• Facilitate behavioural change and de-escalation techniques related to adolescent violence and domestic/family violence interventions.
• Promote emotional regulation, communication, and conflict resolution skills among families and young people.
• Conduct individual and group interventions that build skills, support emotional regulation, and encourage positive behaviours.
• Assist youths and families in developing independent living skills, attending appointments, and connecting with community supports.
• Apply a holistic family approach to strengthen family functioning, safety, and relationships.
• Maintain awareness of coercive control, family dynamics, and impacts of intergenerational trauma.

Case Management, Assessment and Planning

• Engage in assessment, case planning, periodic review, and exit processes to ensure interventions align with goals, safety plans, and client outcomes.
• Support safety plans addressing domestic and family violence risks and family conflicts.
• Make referrals to relevant programs and services fostering positive outcomes.
• Complete program outcome measurements and data collection as required.
• Keep precise case notes and track outcomes systematically.

Court and Outreach Duties

• Attend local Children’s Court listings including Broadmeadow and Raymond Terrace to support families involved and those referred.
• Provide court-related support and referrals to enhance service engagement.
• Conduct outreach in diverse settings including courts, homes, schools, hospitals, community venues, and emergency accommodations.
• Manage workload efficiently and adapt work locations to meet program and client demands.
• Work flexible hours, including evenings when necessary, to support clients effectively.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

• Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams comprising social work, clinical staff, and other specialists to tailor therapeutic interventions to client and family needs.
• Engage professionally with external stakeholders such as Justice Health, Department of Communities and Justice, Police, Education, and NGOs adhering to best practices.

Risk Management and Child Protection

• Adhere to Allambi Care’s risk assessment protocols during initial and ongoing family visits.
• Respond aptly to crises, safety issues, and critical incidents, including mandatory reporting and follow-up consultations consistent with policies and legislation.
• Inform Case Work Manager/Manager of critical incidents, especially those involving child protection or staff support needs.
• Maintain safe driving habits, including when operating company vehicles.

Professional Practice and Organizational Commitments

• Engage in ongoing training to uphold professional standards, comply with organizational policies, and promote Allambi Care values, RAP principles, and therapeutic frameworks.
• Maintain ethical and professional conduct at all times.
• Perform additional duties assigned by management consistent with the role.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Possession or progress towards a Diploma-level qualification in Community Services, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychiatric Nursing, Human Services, or related fields, with proof of qualification required.
• Willingness to participate in role-specific training.
• Experience working with children, young people, and families facing complex emotional and behavioural challenges.
• Competency in engaging family members and supporting healthy family relationships.
• Ability to work independently while supporting multiple teams and clients.
• Familiarity with Needs Based Framework, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) concepts and strategies.
• Knowledge of relevant state regulatory standards and Allambi Care policies.
• Strong written communication and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional qualifications or training in trauma-informed services are advantageous.
• Minimum two years of experience working with children and youths in outreach settings.
