About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Quarry Supervisor who brings strong site leadership, a safety-first mindset, and solid operational experience. This position is responsible for steering daily quarry extraction and production work, coordinating crews and equipment, and making sure all activity is performed efficiently, safely, and in line with legal and environmental obligations. The role works closely with operators, blasting teams, maintenance staff, logistics personnel, and site leadership to maintain steady output, product quality, and high standards of environmental care.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee everyday quarrying activity, including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, crushing, and stockpile control across assigned shifts.
- Set daily tasks for operators, drillers, blasters, and general workers, then track progress against production goals and revise plans when needed.
- Lead pre-shift safety talks, inspect the site, and identify hazards; ensure all workers follow PPE rules and site safety procedures consistently.
- Review drill-and-blast plans with the blasting contractor or licensed shot firer, and make sure exclusion zones and post-blast checks are handled correctly.
- Watch equipment performance, coordinate preventive maintenance with the maintenance team, and help reduce downtime by promptly reporting faults and breakdowns.
- Control material quality by monitoring extraction faces, coordinating with geology personnel, and ensuring output meets customer and plant specifications.
- Keep detailed shift documentation covering production quantities, machine hours, fuel consumption, incidents, and near-miss reporting.
- Apply environmental controls such as dust suppression, water management, noise reduction, and rehabilitation work to stay within permit conditions.
- Work with dispatch, weighbridge, and logistics teams to align delivery timing and support customer order completion.
- Assist the site manager with planning, budget monitoring, contractor oversight, and ongoing improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Certificate III/IV in Surface Extraction Operations, Mining Engineering, Civil Construction, or a related area is required; supervisory or management training is preferred.
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in quarry, open-cut mining, or civil extraction work, including 1 to 2 years in a supervisory or leading-hand role.
- Practical knowledge of quarry processes such as drilling, blasting, crushing, screening, and materials handling.
- Current statutory supervisor ticket, quarry manager certificate, or an equivalent senior site qualification, or the willingness to obtain one as required by local regulations.
- Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental laws relevant to quarry operations.
- Demonstrated ability to guide, motivate, and manage crews working across multiple tasks and changing priorities.
- Experience working with contractors, equipment suppliers, and logistics partners on an active production site.
- Comfortable using shift reports, production logs, and basic computer tools such as MS Office.
- Valid heavy vehicle licence and experience either operating or overseeing heavy earthmoving equipment.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, especially under pressure.
Benefits
- Opportunity to play a key leadership role in a well-established quarry operation with an active production environment and a strong safety focus.
- Work with an experienced team of operators, technicians, and site staff dedicated to quality and performance.
- Competitive compensation package that includes site allowances, shift penalties, and performance-linked incentives.
- All required PPE, tools, and site facilities will be provided.
- Training and support are available for statutory ticket upgrades, safety certifications, and leadership development.
- Clear career growth opportunities into senior supervisory, quarry management, or operations management roles.
