Position Overview

The Public Safety Assessment Coordinator role involves professionally evaluating criminal history data from multiple sources to produce pretrial risk scores using the Laura and John Arnold Foundation’s Public Safety Assessment tool. This assessment supports the courts in making informed decisions about defendants' release risks. The role includes tracking defendants' journeys through the court system and analyzing outcomes to assess the evaluation program's success.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct the Public Safety Assessment (PSA) for defendants to aid courts in release decisions by reviewing criminal background information.
  • Accurately interpret criminal history data obtained from the Department of Justice Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN) and Montana Judicial Branch Full Court records, entering this data into the PSA system.
  • Produce the “AutoMon” report for each defendant to present risk assessments to judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys prior to initial court appearances.
  • Record court release decisions and update associated information within the “AutoMon” system.
  • Input and monitor defendants’ case progress related to pretrial outcomes, contributing to evaluations of procedural and program effectiveness.
  • Operate under strict time constraints to ensure timely and precise data entry and report generation.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external criminal justice agencies as necessary to support PSA implementation and pretrial processes.
  • Maintain certification in CJIN operations and comply with Department of Justice regulations when handling sensitive information.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Associate’s Degree in business administration, social science, criminal justice, legal studies, or a related discipline preferred, with two years of related work experience; equivalent education and experience combinations may be considered.
