Overview
Tagai State College is seeking a temporary full-time Project Officer - Housing (AO4 level) until the end of Term 4, 2026, with a potential extension. This role involves managing facilities related to the Department of Education's housing property portfolio across the Torres Strait, including cleaning, grounds maintenance, logistics, asset oversight, inspections, and inventory management in alignment with the State Tenancy Authority. The position supports the Executive Principal in administering the Local Accommodation Committee (LAC).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative assistance to the Executive Principal for Local Accommodation Committee (LAC) housing matters.
- Serve as the main contact point for escalating and resolving local housing management issues within the college.
- Manage procurement activities including sourcing assets, whitegoods, and furniture.
- Organize and coordinate property inspections.
- Oversee logistics for tenant relocations across properties.
- Report housing activities, maintenance concerns, and WHS issues to the appropriate agencies.
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures from the State Tenancy Authority and Department of Education housing guidelines.
- Collaborate with external partners such as QBuild and the Department of Education Infrastructure Team to support capital refurbishment projects and ongoing maintenance.
- Create and maintain a live, real-time property portfolio for tenant housing using SharePoint.
- Conduct tenant inductions to explain remote teacher housing requirements.
- Manage tenant exits, including preparing exit condition reports.
- Maintain accurate paperwork for State Tenancies Authority and Department of Education housing.
- Prepare documentation and act as secretariat taking minutes during LAC meetings.
Candidate Profile
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Experience or background in facilities management, infrastructure, property management, or government housing is advantageous.
- Willingness and ability to travel to outer islands for property inspections as needed.
- Availability to work during school holidays, correlating with peak tenant changeover periods.
- Strong abilities in scheduling, managing databases, and systems design.
- Capable of multitasking efficiently and working under pressure.
- Note: This role does not include staff housing; candidates must reside locally or secure accommodation on Thursday Island.
