Overview
Selwyn District Council invites applications for the role of Project Manager within the Capital Works team of the Infrastructure & Property Group. The successful candidate will manage a variety of capital infrastructure projects across the district, encompassing areas such as transportation, surface water management, open spaces, property, refuse management, community facilities, and other strategic capital development initiatives. This position plays a critical role in delivering essential infrastructure and services to meet the demands of one of New Zealand's quickest growing regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all stages of project management from initial concept and planning through procurement, execution, and operational handover.
- Lead governance processes, engage stakeholders effectively, and maintain open communication channels.
- Supervise consultants, contractors, and cross-disciplinary project teams to ensure collaborative delivery.
- Drive successful commercial outcomes through efficient procurement, diligent budget oversight, forecasting, risk mitigation, and contract administration.
- Identify and implement opportunities to enhance project value via innovation and continuous improvement practices.
- Monitor project progress regularly and provide accurate, timely reports to sponsors, leadership, and governance entities.
- Ensure thorough inspections upon project completion, managing defect rectifications during maintenance phases.
- Champion health, safety, and wellbeing protocols to cultivate a culture of safety across all operations.
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant will be a seasoned project management professional who thrives in delivering complex projects while fostering strong relationships with diverse stakeholders. You will be an adept problem solver with exceptional organizational skills, capable of balancing multiple priorities in dynamic settings. Your communication proficiency allows you to engage effectively with both technical experts and general audiences, building trust and confidence through every phase.
Qualifications & Experience
- Five to ten years of project management experience, preferably in infrastructure, property, parks/open spaces, community amenities, or related capital works sectors.
- Demonstrated track record in successfully managing projects from planning and procurement to completion and operational handover.
- Expertise in contract management, procurement, tendering, budgeting, forecasting, and risk assessment.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams including consultants and contractors.
- Proven capability in building productive relationships with internal groups, external stakeholders, community organizations, and regulatory authorities.
- High digital literacy with competency in project management software and reporting tools.
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management, Landscape Architecture, or a comparable field, or equivalent practical experience.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience in local government or similar public-sector roles.
- Certifications such as PRINCE2 or PMP.
- Membership or chartered status in relevant professional bodies.
