Project Engineer - Battery Energy Storage Systems

About the Role

We seek a freelance Project Engineer specialized in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to join an innovative renewable energy company based in Berlin. Your technical leadership will span the entire lifecycle of sophisticated energy storage projects, from initial planning through commissioning. This role supports the existing team during a transitional phase and requires close coordination among multiple departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Assume technical accountability for BESS projects from inception to completion.
• Coordinate technical aspects with project management, clients, and internal departments.
• Develop and align technical specifications.
• Guide grid connection and integration procedures.
• Assist with Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), and commissioning.
• Review technical documentation and improve workflows.
• Provide technical expertise to the sales team for complex projects.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, project management, and other stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

• Completed degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• Several years of experience as a project engineer, field engineer, or commissioning engineer.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in BESS projects.
• Familiarity with grid connection processes and VDE regulations such as VDE-AR-N 4110/4120.
• Background in plant construction, energy technology, or renewable energy sectors.
• Fluency in German, along with good command of English.

Additional Details

• Location: Berlin with hybrid work model (~3 days per week onsite).
• Start Date: Immediate or ideally August 1.
• Contract Duration: 3 to 5 months on a full-time basis (40 hours/week).
