Role Overview

The PMO Senior Officer supports senior leadership in governance and oversight of multi-country office (MCO) portfolios, ensuring exemplary project delivery aligned with UNOPS standards and sustainable development goals in West Africa.

Key Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to project teams on best practices and policies for effective project execution.
  • Coordinate the creation, consolidation, and monitoring of plans and progress indicators across units and projects.
  • Establish resource tracking frameworks complementing online tools for improved forecasting and delivery monitoring.
  • Assist in risk identification, escalation, and mitigation alongside project setup, implementation, and closure.
  • Ensure projects develop and follow comprehensive plans including Gender Action Plans, HR, procurement, quality management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Monitor compliance with reporting standards and corporate initiatives, facilitating regular progress assessments and performance evaluations.
  • Support risk and issue management at program and portfolio levels, providing analytical insights for decision-making.
  • Oversee stakeholder engagement plans and communication strategies to ensure effective internal and external collaboration.
  • Facilitate quality assurance activities in accordance with audit and organizational standards, driving continuous process improvements and knowledge sharing.
  • Promote capacity building for project teams, advocating participation in communities of practice and applying lessons learned to improve organizational policies.

Education and Experience

Required qualifications include either a Bachelor’s degree in Project Management with four years relevant experience or a Master’s degree with two years relevant experience. PRINCE2 Practitioner certification is highly desirable.

Experience in multicultural or UN settings, particularly in development or humanitarian sectors, is preferred. Additional advantages include proficiency with data analysis and project management systems, experience in African contexts, working with government officials, and infrastructure projects.
