Descrizione del lavoro
Role overview
This position is an Operational Support Grade role at HMP Long Lartin, supporting the smooth everyday running of a busy prison. It is a practical, varied job that mixes desk-based duties with hands-on tasks across the establishment.
What you will do
You will be part of a collaborative team handling a range of operational support duties such as gate security checks, searches, managing incoming deliveries, overseeing visitors, and monitoring phone activity and CCTV. The work can also involve lifting, carrying, and walking across the prison grounds to escort vehicles.
Working pattern and travel
This role includes a mix of shifts, including weekends and night shifts. Shift start and finish times are fixed, so you must be able to arrive at work punctually. The prison may be in a rural area with limited public transport, so having a driving licence and your own transport is helpful, though not compulsory unless the vacancy states otherwise.
What the role offers
This is a chance to contribute to public safety while supporting vital prison operations. Although contact with prisoners is limited compared with prison officers, you may interact with them from time to time depending on the establishment. The role also gives you a strong understanding of prison operations and may open pathways to other prison careers, including the OSG to Prison Officer conversion scheme.
Training and development
You will receive solid training along with opportunities to progress and build your career within the service.
Pay and benefits
The salary for this role is £29,432. Alongside base pay, you will also receive annual leave entitlement starting at 25 days on appointment and rising to 30 days after 10 years of service, calculated pro rata. You will also get 9 days of bank, public and privilege holidays, access to a paid Level 2 apprenticeship in customer service, and the Civil Service pension scheme. Additional support and savings include season ticket loans, retail discounts, an Employee Assistance Programme, and a Cycle to Work scheme.
