Role Overview
We are seeking an eager and inquisitive policy officer with experience in legislative matters to join our Employment and Trade Policy team. This position provides the chance to deepen your expertise while contributing to strategic policy initiatives addressing challenges and opportunities in trade, employment, and training sectors.
About the Employment and Trade Policy Branch
The branch pursues a strategic policy development approach across areas including trade, skilled migration, international education, training, and workforce policies. Our main goal is to encourage increased investment in human capital and trade as drivers of economic growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed policy research and analysis to create well-informed, timely advice that supports policy and project advancement on key employment and trade issues aligned with departmental objectives.
- Remain current on developments and initiatives related to employment and trade policies at international, national, and state levels to bolster strategic guidance on intergovernmental and intragovernmental efforts, including legislation and reform activities.
- Produce high-quality written outputs and communication materials regarding employment and trade matters such as briefs, cabinet submissions, drafting directives, consultation documents, regulatory impact assessments, presentations, and speeches.

- Lead and adapt effectively amid change and complexity by positively responding to uncertainty and evolving requirements.
- Deliver results under pressure by managing priorities efficiently, working both independently and collaboratively, and championing enhancements in work practices related to policy, data, research, and operations.
