Role Overview

The Plaster / Cast Technician position is a full-time role based on-site in Qatar, responsible for the application, modification, and removal of plaster and fiberglass casts, splints, and other orthopedic supports as directed by orthopedic clinicians. Daily duties involve preparing patients for casting, choosing suitable casting materials, ensuring sterile and secure work conditions, and providing patients and their families with guidance on cast care, mobility, and necessary follow-up care.

Responsibilities

  • Apply, adjust, and safely remove plaster and fiberglass casts, splints, and orthopedic supports under medical supervision.
  • Prepare patients and select proper casting materials for procedures.
  • Maintain sterile and safe work environments adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Offer clear instructions and education to patients and family members about cast maintenance and mobility.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing staff, physicians, and physiotherapists to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Document procedures accurately and monitor patients for complications such as pressure sores or circulation problems.
  • Maintain and stock casting equipment and supplies ensuring compliance with hospital infection control and safety standards.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Competence in casting and splinting procedures including application, adjustment, and removal of casts and orthopedic supports.
  • Understanding of orthopedic anatomy, fracture classifications, and immobilization techniques.
  • Excellent patient care abilities with communication skills to educate diverse patient populations sensitively and clearly.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with strong adherence to infection control, safety, and quality guidelines.
  • Capacity to manage multiple cases efficiently in a busy clinical environment and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Technical diploma or certification relevant to casting/orthopedic technology preferred, with previous experience in orthopedic or similar environments advantageous.
  • Basic computer literacy for managing electronic medical records and documentation.
  • Proficiency in English is essential; Arabic language skills are considered a plus.
  • Authorization to work in Qatar and willingness to adhere to hospital policies, work shifts, and engage in ongoing training.
